How very cool it feels
taking a noonday nap, to have
a wall against my heels!

In the summer rain
the path
has disappeared.

It falls, the peony –
and upon each other lie
petals, two or three.

All the rains of June:
and one evening, secretly,
through the pines, the moon.

Summer night –
even the stars
are whispering to each other.

On the temple bell
has settled, and is glittering,
a firefly.

The thunderstorm goes by;
on one tree evening sunlight –
a cicada cry.
